Structured cabling and networks the backbone every system runs on

Homeview Surveillance designs, installs and certifies commercial structured cabling and IP networks to BS EN 50173, ISO/IEC 11801 and ANSI/TIA-568. From Cat6A copper and fibre backbones to PoE-powered comms rooms and resilient switching, we build the standards-based infrastructure that your CCTV, access control, intruder and fire systems depend on — engineered for capacity, resilience and growth.

Copper & fibre infrastructure

Structured cabling to BS EN 50173, ISO/IEC 11801 & ANSI/TIA-568

A standards-based horizontal and backbone infrastructure that carries every security and life-safety system on site — specified, installed and certified to recognised cabling standards.

Cat6 & Cat6A horizontal copper

Screened or unscreened balanced twisted-pair horizontal cabling designed to channel and permanent-link performance, supporting 1G to 10GBASE-T for cameras, access points, access control and IP telephony.

Fibre backbones

Single-mode (OS2) and multimode (OM4/OM5) optical backbones between comms rooms, plant rooms and outbuildings, sized for current load and future bandwidth headroom across multi-building estates.

Channel design & link budgets

Cable routes, lengths and pathways engineered within standard channel limits and optical loss budgets, so every link is compliant by design rather than verified by hope.

Containment & segregation

Dedicated tray, basket and trunking with correct segregation from power and EMI sources, fire-stopping at compartment breaches and labelled routes for safe future maintenance.

Comms rooms, PoE & networking

Comms rooms, data cabinets and resilient PoE networks

The active and passive heart of the building — cabinets, patching, switching and power-over-Ethernet engineered to energise and connect every edge device reliably.

Comms rooms & data cabinets

Floor-standing and wall-mounted cabinets with structured patch fields, vertical and horizontal cable management, environmental ventilation and clean power distribution, sized for growth.

PoE & PoE++ power

IEEE 802.3af/at/bt power-over-Ethernet engineered with per-port and total power budgets for IP cameras, wireless APs, IP access control and VoIP handsets — one cable for data and power.

Managed switching & VLANs

Managed edge and core switching with VLAN segregation, QoS and link aggregation, keeping CCTV, access, building services and corporate traffic logically separated on a shared backbone.

Resilient links & UPS

Redundant uplinks, spanning-tree or stacked topologies and UPS-backed cabinets so critical security and life-safety devices stay online through switch or mains disruption.

Certification, warranty & documentation

Certified, warranted installations with full as-built records

Every link is tested, certified and documented — giving estates teams, consultants and procurement an auditable record of a compliant, manufacturer-backed installation.

Channel & permanent-link testing

100% of copper links tested to permanent-link or channel parameters and fibre tested by light-source/power-meter and OTDR, with results stored against each labelled outlet.

Manufacturer system warranty

Installed by accredited engineers using a single-vendor component set where required, enabling extended manufacturer system and applications warranties on the installed plant.

As-built documentation

Outlet schedules, patching and port maps, cabinet elevations, route drawings and full test certificates handed over as a complete, auditable as-built record.

Labelling & asset records

Consistent labelling of outlets, patch panels, cabinets and backbones to a documented convention, so faults are located fast and future moves, adds and changes stay controlled.

Design for resilience & growth

Designed for capacity, resilience and future growth

Infrastructure planned around your operational roadmap — with spare capacity, diverse routing and structured pathways so the network grows with the estate, not against it.

Capacity & headroom

Outlet densities, cabinet space, containment fill and power budgets specified with deliberate spare capacity, so added cameras, APs and devices land on an infrastructure that already expects them.

Diverse & resilient routing

Backbone and pathway design with diverse routes and redundant links for critical systems, reducing single points of failure across the security and life-safety estate.

Open standards by design

ONVIF-compatible, vendor-neutral cabling and networking that keeps you free to choose best-in-class CCTV, access and intruder hardware now and at future refresh.

Multi-site & phased rollout

Consistent standards, labelling and documentation applied across multiple sites and phased programmes, so every building integrates cleanly into one managed network.

Frequently asked

Commercial security & tender FAQs

Installations cover Cat6 and Cat6A copper horizontal cabling, fibre backbone links between comms rooms and floors, patch panels, cabinets and PoE provision for IP cameras, access control and wireless access points. Cable routes, containment, labelling and patching are all delivered to an agreed specification so the network is documented end to end. As an SSAIB and BAFE approved installer established in 1997, the same infrastructure can be designed to carry CCTV and Ajax alarm traffic alongside data.

Copper links are installed and tested to BS EN 50173 / ISO/IEC 11801 structured cabling standards, with containment and any associated mains work to BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations). Every link is verified with calibrated test equipment, and certified test results for permanent links or channels are provided as part of the handover pack. This certification underpins the warranty and gives estates and facilities teams the documented evidence often required at practical completion.

Yes. Cat6A in particular is specified where higher PoE budgets, 10GBASE-T or longer-term headroom are needed, allowing 4K IP cameras, door controllers and access points to be powered and connected over the same structured cabling. Designing a single converged infrastructure reduces duplicated containment and simplifies future moves and changes. Power budgets and switch capacity are assessed at survey so PoE loads are supported reliably across the estate.

Warranty terms and any application or system warranty are confirmed against the specified component manufacturer and the certified test results at handover. Ongoing support and maintenance can be arranged under an SLA, and where the cabling carries security systems, the 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) with police response monitors CCTV and Ajax alarms running over that infrastructure. Planned remedial visits and reactive callouts are scoped to suit single sites or multi-site commercial contracts.

Commercial engagement begins with a site survey and a written specification covering cable types, routes, containment, comms room layout and test requirements, which can be issued to inform a tender or aligned to your PQQ/ITT documents. The design can be coordinated with CCTV, access control and Ajax alarm scopes where these form part of the same project. Procurement, facilities and estates teams in Essex, Suffolk and nationwide for commercial contracts can request a survey on 01255 436150.

Arrange a structured cabling & network survey

Our engineers will survey your site, assess existing containment, cabinets and power, and produce a specification and as-built-ready design for a structured cabling and network infrastructure built around your security, life-safety and operational systems. We work to tender and procurement requirements and provide full standards documentation for your records.
